RESUME TIPS
Look and content are
both crucial to your resume. The best experience can be lost in the confusion
of a resume that is disorganized or poorly designed. Include white space,
readable type and clearly defined sections in which the important information
is easy to find.
Do not try to include all the details of past jobs. You just need to include
enough of an overview to generate interest; usually titles and primary duties.
If freelance, name clients.
Content must reflect your work experience honestly and accurately. For employers,
include name, location, months and years of employment. References are usually
checked before employment is offered so be accurate.
Include any awards you may have won for your work.
Appearance
and attention to detail are always important. For creatives, this is especially
so. The look of a graphic designer's resume says something about his or her
esthetics. Typos and misspellings should always be eliminated from any resume,
but for a writer or editor, they are inexcusable.
Make sure type is large enough to be faxed and readable and basic enough to
be scanned.
Make it clear what kind of work you are seeking, either in your objective
or in an accompanying cover letter.
One page is best, two is permissible, but never three pages.
